THE VETTE NET, Nationwide Corvette Brokerage Network, proud Lifetime Business Member of the National Corvette Museum is pleased to offer a very special Corvette: 1963 Red Convertible with the rare Fuel Injection option. Present owner had the car since 1996, bought from a Classic car company in Missouri. It was complete and running with original matching numbers engine. Actual owner thoroughly verified the numbers on the block and cylinder heads and crosschecked them with the build date of the car. There was no reason to suspect anything and it is strongly believed that this is the engine that the car came with. The engine was immediately removed and replaced with a generic 327 Corvette engine in order to preserve the original. Brakes were restored and car was driven occasionally. In 2007 the Fuel Injection unit was sent to a reputable FI shop run by Jack Podell http://www.jackpodellfuelinjections.com/ where it sustained a complete restoration. When the unit came back after more than a year, the actual owner decided to do a complete frame-off restoration. Car was stripped and was taken to GT Graphics and Customs in Bradenton, FL. They removed the body from the frame and was sent to be media blasted with soda, then prepped for paint in the original Riverside Red. As the body work was going on, frame was completely stripped and coated in epoxy primer. Then, the frame and control arms was shot with GM Restoration black. The control arms maintain the original style ball joints (not the bolt on replacements). Engine was rebuilt by a local machine shop. According to the restorer, who did hundreds of Chevrolet engines, it is without a doubt the original stamping, not a restamp. Frame and drive train restoration was finished, then car was taken back to GT Graphics to mount the body to the frame. This was completed around November of 2008. The bumpers (original GM) were sent out to Tampa, FL for chroming and when they returned the assembly began. The car was partially assembled (chrome, trim, etc…) and sent to Corvettes West for final assembly. The car was wired, interior installed and started at that shop. The final assembly was completed by an NCRS judge so everything could be as close to original as possible. No nut or bolt was left untouched. Even the hub caps were sent to California to be professionally restored. The tires are period correct. Even the white soft top is dated to match the car. Finally, the car was complete around June of 2009. It was just too nice to drive on the street, so the owner decided to sell in order to be preserved in a private collection. Car is practically new, restored to higher standards and is a serious NCRS candidate. It comes with the correct hardtop too. This fine example is quipped with a 327/300 engine (not original), 4 speed manual transmission, knock-off wheels, side pipes and is in great condition. It had an older off-frame restoration with new paint, frame sandblasted, zink-chromated and painted, new bumpers, new front and back glass, new door handles, new door panels and carpet, new front blinkers and tailights, new gas tank, stainless gas and brakes lines, power antenna, etc. Recently brakes were all re-done, plus the master cylinder. Paint is in very good condition, now Milano Maroon, originally Glen Green. Body has some mild upgrades like the Big Block hood, add-on mild flares on the rear and a rear spoiler on the back end, glued on then painted (apparently a popular thing back in the late 60s - early 70s). Miles are a little over 88000 and are believed to be actual. Corvette trades are entertained, nationwide delivery provided if necessary. What’s not to like…. Rally Red with black leather and a matching numbers L79 engine plus side exhaust. Life is good!! If you are looking for nicely restored midyear small block convertible with documented low mileage, here it is. I asked the owner to rate the overall appearance of his Vette. First of all, it was completely dis-assembled and a thorough off-frame restoration and upgrading process was started with every part being new or rebuilt. Frame is powder coated silver. The only modification is the removal of the cross member and building a bolt on one out of steel, then powder coated to help in mounting the Tremec 5 speed transmission. Upper and lower A arms are powder coated (black). Trailing arms new also powder coated. New front coil springs, poly bushings up front, 300 lb fiber spring in rear. new half shafts,new U joints,new ring & pinion w/355 posi-track, new gas tank, new Big block radiator. Brakes are completely done: all new calipers w/ stainless pistons, new pads, new rotors,new master cylinder, new steel brake lines, Completed in 2010. All new steering system. Power comes from a 383ci Crate motor from GM with 425 hp. New Tremec 5 speed (TKO 600) with a tall 1st gear of 2.87:1 and 0.64:1 in the 5th. Modern power steering and power brakes. A/C with Sanden compressor. Battery moved to storage compartment behind passenger seat. Two new speakers installed in both front kick panels. Tilt steering wheel. All paint was removed down to bare fiberglass. Bonding strips were looked at very close. Left front was re-bonded. All cracks fixed and fiberglass sealed. Approximately 5 coates of Base and 3 or 4 coates of clear were put on this piece of art. Has Big Block hood with Red stinger. Interior is all brand new with Al Knoch, carpet, leather seat covers... also Dyna-mat, sound deadening from front to rear. Complete documentation of the restoration is available. Car was initially Lyndale Blue 350/350 AC, 4 speed. All in all, this car is brand new and, obviously handles better than a stock car. It would be pretty difficult to duplicate such a creation, so this is your chance to own a desirable 67 Convertible with the appearance and power of a Big Block, but all with modern technology and reliability. Here are some details and photos of the Sting Ray presented for your review. In 2009, this Corvette was restored (body on) and repainted the code correct Glen Green. The saddle interior was also restored. This 1965 Corvette convertible was restored to a high quality standard as you will see. It appears to still have the original fiberglass. While the big block engine (1965) is a replacement, the owner states his Corvette still has numerous big block features including the suspension and gauges. The battery box is located on the left side which is specific to big block 1965 Corvettes. Less than ten percent of 1965 Corvettes were ordered with the L78 engine option making this a pretty rare Vette. Better yet, this one has the drop top that adds even more to the fun factor and thrill of driving a big block. The owner states the frame and birdcage are solid with no rust issues. The body appears to have all factory original panels. Look closely at the photos and you will see the panel gaps are very nice as well. It is powered by the optional L75 327/300 engine with the correct VIN and suffix stamped on the engine pad, coupled with a factory Powerglide Automatic transmission and Power Steering. It has correct 1965 hubcaps with new tires. One interesting fact is that even if it was a late production car, it features the optional drum brakes which were still an option with credit of $64.50 to customer. Apparently only 316 buyers opted for that instead of the recently introduced standard disk brakes.
